This is the flagship event of the centre conducted at a national level where colleges across India participate to debate about various burning issues related to consumer protection and marketing.
COnsumer PROtections or COns and PROs? It doesn’t matter because COPRO 2019 debated it all out... 16 teams debating on various topics related to consumer protection, such as “Should a hospital be penalized for the medical negligence of the doctor?” and “Should Instagram influencers be penalized for promoting faulty products”, etc. The event gave new perspectives towards consumer rights and duties. It was a fascinating event for both participants and judges.
This was a two-day debating tournament event that took place on google meet, where different topics were assigned to the participants. The most contentious discussions occurred during the sessions on the propositions that “the farm bill will increase the income gap between rich and poor farmers” and “the proposition believes that the farm bill will increase the income gap between rich and poor farmers”, respectively.
The theme for this edition was “Digital finance”, which was inspired by the theme for World Consumer Rights Day, 2022. The competition was conducted with the aim of providing the students at Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad, with a platform to showcase their debating and speaking skills across four rounds before a panel of well-established academicians and professionals. The esteemed judges for the competition were Advocate Gautam Busi, Partner at Tempus Law Associates, and CA Mr. Geetanshu Bhalla, Founder of RSGB Business Consultants Private Limited, among many others.
This is another flagship event of the centre which involves an exciting quiz revolving around topics related to marketing and consumerism. It involves various rounds such as fastest finger first, pounce and bounce, logo round, audio-visual etc. So far, three editions of the same have been successfully conducted, with the active participation of students, across batches of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad.
On the 11th and 12th of July 2020, the Centre for Consumer Rights and Marketing hosted a two-day webinar on the subject of Corporate Sickness: Socioeconomic, Political, and Legal Issues, Challenges, and Implications in association with Pious X Pg (MBA) College for Women. The webinar was conducted for two days which was further divided into 11 sessions in total. The guests and speakers discussed a range of subjects, including Corporate Sickness and the IBC, Debt Recovery Law in India, Challenges in the Transition to the New Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, Role of an IP Professional under the IBC, Retrospect and Prospects of the IBC, Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets, and Enforcement of Seizure Orders. After a panel discussion on the subject of “Corporate Sickness: Political and Legal Issues and Challenges,” the two-day event came to an end. The occasion was a great success.
On 24th December 2020, the Centre for Consumer Rights and Marketing (CCRM) and the Legal Aid Centre (LAC) planned to host a webinar on the subject of “The Future of Consumer Protection in the Light of Consumer Protection Act, 2019- The Sustainable Consumer” in honour of National Consumers Day, which has been observed on December 24 every year since 1986. This webinar was held online, precisely on Cisco WebEx. Students extensively participated in the competition, and the guests emphasized the students on Consumer Protection and the recent amendments in the Act.
The Centre for Consumer Rights and Marketing (CCRM) held a photography competition in honour of World “Consumer Rights Day,” which is observed on March 15th, and invited interested individuals to submit their images by March 22nd, 2021, at the latest. This photography competition’s theme, “Tackling Plastic Pollution,” was chosen considering the world’s rising plastic pollution as well as the theme of World Consumer Rights Day in 2021. This was carried out to increase public awareness of plastic pollution and the harm it can do to the environment. The cell also hoped to demonstrate through this event how plastic may be recycled to reduce its adverse effects on the environment. Students from all around the nation were eligible to enter the competition.
On March 15, 2022, World Consumer Rights Day, the Centre for Consumer Rights and Marketing held an awareness-raising session for the non-teaching personnel of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad. The theme of the event was fair digital finance, where a distinguished speaker at the occasion discussed about banking and financial frauds. In order to clarify the subject being discussed, as well as to see how much they were aware of it and how much they had learned during the session, he posed a few hypothetical as well as experience-based questions. He engaged the audience by asking them questions, and they eagerly participated in giving their answers.
In order to foster student creativity and raise awareness of consumer rights and marketing, the Centre for Consumer Rights and Marketing (CCRM) organized an inter-college blog writing competition to encourage creative writing skills among students while promoting awareness regarding consumer rights and marketing. The participants were free to choose any topic related to Consumer Rights or Marketing. Participants took part enthusiastically and won the cash prize awarded to them.
The Cell conducted its first virtual internship in 2020, which was primarily research-based and related to marketing trends and consumer problems that were widely prevalent at the time. The program ran throughout the month of June. Interns were given various tasks such as research, group discussion etc. during their time with us.
After the success of Internship 1.0 in 2020, CCRM launched its second internship in August 2021, which was met with an overwhelming response of more than 800 applications, out of which 13 interns were shortlisted. Over the course of 21 days, the interns actively participated in various research, drafting, team building, and presentation activities. Everyone worked tremendously to make this internship successful.
